NOW AVAILABLE ! The 2010 Canadian Pro Season for COLD SNAP Canadian Pro Football Game! It's time to tee it up again in "YOUR League!" The brand-new 2010 Canadian pro football season card set for COLD SNAP Canadian Pro Football Game, is now available! For the first time in 13 years, the Canadian pro league had a repeat champion in 2010. Montreal had stormed through the 2009 season with a record 15 regular season victories, posted a landslide semi-final playoff win, and then endured a near-upset in the championship game before pulling out a win with a last-second field goal. It was a much different path in 2010, however. The Montreal defence allowed almost 10 points a game MORE in 2010, and the offence--though still very productive--was successful largely because of an avoidance of turnovers. Montreal's star quarterback was again the league's most efficient passer, and--most importantly--threw only seven interceptions all year, out of nearly 600 attempts. The other clubs in the East scrambled for playoff position, with Toronto and Hamilton claiming berths with twin 9-9 records. A new regime took over in Winnipeg, promising a fresh approach and a new commitment to winning through team play. They didn't win much, but they WERE quite competitive, losing nine games by four points or less. Out west, Calgary dominated the regular season with the league's highest-scoring offence, led by the league MVP at quarterback. Calgary's hi-octane passer piled up almost 5000 yards and nearly 40 touchdowns, as his team rolled to a league-best 13-5 regular season mark. But, as was the case last year, Calgary was upset in the semi-finals by an inspired Saskatchewan club. Stung by last year's tragic fall-from-ahead, last-secon defeat in the championship game, Saskatchewan shook off the doldrums and, once again, saved their best football at the end of the season. They outscored British Columbia in the division final, then stunned Calgary in the semi-final to advance to the title game once again. This year's result was the same as last year, although not QUITE as dramatic--Saskatchewan had a chance to pull out the game late, but fell short in a 21-18 defeat to Montreal. British Columbia and Edmonton brought up the rear of the division--streaky teams that had some bright moments, and some not-so-bright. When Edmonton lost on the final day of the regular season, BC earned the final playoff spot. As is always the case with the wide-open Canadian league, there were plenty of big numbers piled up in 2010 by the league's stars. Saskatchewan's quarterback passed for over 5500 yards. Three passers each threw for over 30 touchdown passes. Calgary's speed wideout found the end zone fifteen times for scores. Montreal's veteran slotback became the league's all-time pass reception leader, catching his 1007th pass in an October game against Calgary. His prolific team-mate caught almost 100 balls during the season to lead the league. Winnipeg's powerhouse runner turned in another stellar year carrying the ball, with almost 1400 yards rushing, and a 6.6 yard average! Toronto's multi-purpose pass-catching and return star rolled up over 3000 yards of total offence. On defence, Winnipeg's cat-like DE was a nightmare for Canadian passers, getting to the quarterback 16 times for sacks. Saskatchewan's all-pro safety led the league in interceptions, with 9, and made the all-league team. In keeping with the Canadian style of play, there was a host of fast, smart linebackers who rode herd over the wide-open offences--Hamilton's star 'backer was among the best. And, it was a very SPECIAL year for special teams in the Canadian league. Eighteen kicks were brought back by return men for touchdowns in 2010--an amazing total for an eight-team league. On the kicking side of the ball, BC's veteran kicker had a huge year--connecting on 46 of 52 field goal attempts, and adding another 40 points on converts and singles.
