NOW AVAILABLE! The new 2011-12 World Hockey League Update for HOCKEY BLAST Pro Hockey Game! Ready to move onto the next chapter of your own personal hockey league? Here's everything you need to DO it! The new 2011-12 World Hockey League player card update for HOCKEY BLAST Pro Hockey Board Game! In April of 2010, we introduced the World Hockey League--a fictional hockey universe where YOU are the commissioner. A roster of 320 WHL players took the ice for that inaugural season, representing a variety of abilities and playing styles. The WHL card set quickly became one of our most popular releases, evidenced by the assortment of leagues that were created, as reported on the official PLAAY Games Forum! Now, it's a year later--and we're ready for round TWO... Some players have moved on. A few of the league's long-time veterans, like left wing Guy LeFreniere, center Billy Robson, and defenseman Jamie Morton, have hung up the skates. Others, like defenseman Steve Deisinger and right wing Adam Tomlinson simply weren't offered new contracts. Center Zigmund Ciernik returned to Europe, and left wing Andy MacAndrew was re-assigned to the minor leagues. In all, about fifty of last year's players won't be returning for the 2011-12 season. To take the places of the departed players, a brand new crop of rookies and free-agents has signed on. Some of them are project players, others will have an immediate impact. There's left wing Risto Pietikainen, a hot-shot rookie Finn; right wing Rich Conti, a collegiate star from Connecticut with big numbers. Defenseman Todd Zajac joins the league after many years in the minors--finally getting his shot in the bigs. And goaltender Filip Lindqvist, a national hero in Sweden, brings his decorated mask to the WHL. Of course, a large number of 2010-11 WHL players return for the 2011-12 season. As you would expect from a pro hockey league, some of those returning players are showing improved skills, some not so much. Players like right wing Jake Hull and defenseman Sammie Rehn appear ready to make the jump to "elite" status. But center Dave Wyatt and goalie Blake Abbott are among those who may disappoint you, when compared to last year's performance. All-WHL center Jorgen Henriksson begins the new season suffering from the lingering effects of pre-season injury--you can expect his production to be down this year. However, you'll likely be delighted with the results produced by goalie Kerry Kiernan's off-season program--he'll be much improved over 2010-11. Want to learn more about the league? We've created a free WHL Player Profile that includes detail on EVERY player in the league this year, as well as every player from last year who won't be returning. A number of HOCKEY BLAST fans suggested that a publication like this would be helpful in "filling in the blanks" about the league--so, here it is! The new 2011-12 World Hockey League Update for HOCKEY BLAST Pro Hockey Game is available in either printed or PDF formats. The printed version sells for $20 postage-paid, and includes all 320 WHL player cards on easy-to-separate micro-perfed card stock. The PDF edition sells for $11, and is sent right to your e-mail box, so you can print-and-play right away!
