North America's professional soccer presence continues to grow in stature and expertise. The year's biggest news, of course, was the addition of world soccer icon Lionel Messi to the league's Miami club. Messi was joined on the Miami roster by two fellow world-class football stars and former team-mates, defender Jordi Alba and midfielder Sergio Busquets. The trio of stars helped guide Miami to the league's cup title, the club's first ever trophy, and the club also reached the U.S. Open Cup final for the first time. More notably, they energized the ever-growing interest in the league, which averaged over 22,000 fans per game for the 2023 season.
The North American League added a new franchise in St. Louis, bringing to 29 its roster of clubs. Cincinnati, a new club itself five years ago, finished with the league's best record, 20 wins and 9 draws in the 34 game season, but saw its championship hopes upended un the conference finals by cross-state rival Columbus. Columbus then wrapped up a magical season with a 2-1 win over Los Angeles City for the league championship.
