Welcome to another season of tabletop racin’ with the 2023 Pro Season for RED WHITE & BUE RACIN’ Stock Car Action Game!

We won't go into an in-depth re-hash of the 2023 season, but a couple of things are worth noting.

First, New Zealand driver Shane Van Gisbergen made history by becoming the first driver in the modern era to win his very first race. At 34 years old, he's not exactly a newcomer to the pro racing scene: he's competed in various divisions and racing classifications over many years. He ran only two races in 2023, both road courses, winning at Chicago and finishing 10th at Indianapolis. We annotated his card to restrict his participation on your game table, but even so, with five road courses on the schedule, there's strong potential for him to "overachieve." We considered giving him a second card for non-road courses, to underscore the "boutique" nature of his card. Ultimately, we figured that would make it more confusing.

With continued improvement in the efficiency of equipment, 2023 saw a record low rate for cars failing to finish races due to mechanical failure ("DNF mechanical"). There were only about two DNF mechanicals for every three races. As a result, we're proposing some rules changes for this set, outlined in the liner notes.

There are a few drivers who've been given "boutique" ratings because of their exceptional/unique performances. We've already mentioned Shane Van Gisbergen, here are a couple of others...

• Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski have been given boutique brake symbol ratings, which are not applicable if/when they are leading a race. This reflects their actual performance, where neither was able to win a race despite numerous strong finishes.

• We gave Ryan Blaney a boutique HEAT rating, in effect for playoff races.

The 2023 Pro Season set for RED WHITE & BLUE RACIN' represents 53 real-life pro drivers. Each driver card is presented in one of the team's real-life color schemes. As has been the case for the past several years, the drivers and track ratings were rated by Jerry Minks, Mountain City, TN. Nobody knows the scene better than Jerry, and I'm honored to have him continue to apply his expertise for another pro racing card set.

Eight blank driver cards have been included in this set, too, in case you'd like to switch drivers to different teams, or create new drivers of your own choosing. (Some RED WHITE & BLUE RACIN' fans make cards of themselves to run against the pros!) Just pencil in the ratings, (and add color, if you're artistically-inclined) and you're ready to go!

With the 2023 Pro Season cards for RED WHITE & BLUE RACIN' you can re-create the entire pro racing season, or just the races that interest you! RWBR's Race Week procedure provides all kinds of fun twists, it'll seem like you're right there in the middle of the excitement as Race Day approaches!
